If the mesh has gone brittle and is tearing in more than one place, the material is at the end of its life and the screen wants rescreening rather than patching. If the frame is bent, corroded through, or so far out of square that it no longer meets the window, the frame is the problem and no amount of work on the mesh will fix it.
