Sliding Screen Door Replacement in Tampa Bay

A sliding screen door with a bent or corroded frame will not slide right again, whatever new rollers or mesh go into it. At that point it needs a new door. We measure the opening, build a sliding screen door to fit it, and install it on your track, so it slides easily, closes flush and keeps the bugs out. If your old door can still be repaired, we will tell you that first.

When it is time for a new sliding screen door

Most sliding screen doors can be repaired, and when they can, we repair them. A new door is the right call when:

  • The frame is bent, bowed or kinked at a corner, so the door will not close flush
  • The frame is corroded, which is common in homes near salt water
  • The door is missing, or was thrown out during a move or a renovation
  • The old door never fit well, and it gaps, rubs or keeps coming off the track
  • The sliding glass door has never had a screen door at all

If the frame is straight and only the rollers, track or mesh are worn, that is sliding screen door repair, and it costs less than a new door.

Custom sliding screen doors, built to your opening

Sliding door openings are not all one size, and a door that is a little off will rub, leave a gap down the side or jump its track. Store-bought sliding screen doors come in a few common sizes and are adjusted to nearly fit.

Every custom sliding screen door we install is measured at the door it is going on and built to that opening. The rollers are set for your track, and the mesh is rolled in tight with new spline, so the door rides level and closes flush from the first day.

A screen door for a sliding door that has none

Plenty of Tampa Bay homes have a sliding glass door with no screen door on it. The house was bought without one, it blew away in a storm, or it was never fitted. Without a screen for the sliding door, it stays shut, or it lets in mosquitoes and no-see-ums every time it is open.

Most sliding glass doors are made with a track for a screen door on the outside, even when no screen door was ever put on it. We build a new door to fit that track and install it.

Choose the mesh for your sliding door screen

The door is built the same way whichever mesh goes in, so pick the one that suits how the door gets used:

  • Standard fiberglass: good airflow and a clear view, right for most doors
  • Pet-resistant: a heavier, tougher weave for the door a dog or cat pushes on
  • No-see-um: a tighter weave that keeps out the tiny biting bugs common near the water in Florida
  • Solar: a denser mesh that cuts heat and glare on a door that gets strong sun

How sliding screen door installation works

  • Send a photo of the door, or of the opening if there is no door, with your quote request. Quotes are free.
  • We come to your home and measure the opening and the track.
  • We build the new door to that size, install it on the track, adjust the rollers so it sits level, and check that it slides and closes flush before we leave.

One door or every slider on the property

Most screen door replacement calls are for one door, but a house or a rental often has two or three sliders, and doing them together is simpler. We replace sliding screen doors for homeowners, and for landlords and property managers getting a rental ready across Tampa Bay.

While we are there, we can also look at the sliding glass door itself. If its rollers or track are worn, we can repair them on the same visit.

Sliding screen door replacement questions

Can you replace just the sliding screen door, not the glass door?

Yes. The sliding screen door is a separate door on its own track, outside the glass door. We replace it on its own, and the glass door is only touched if you want its rollers or track repaired too.

Can you put a screen door on a sliding door that never had one?

Usually, yes. Most sliding glass doors have a track for a screen door built in, even when no door was ever fitted. Send a photo of the door with your quote request and we will tell you.

Do I need to measure my sliding door first?

No. We measure the opening and the track at your home and build the door to those sizes. A photo helps us quote the job, but getting the size right is our part. Our guide to standard sliding glass door sizes explains why your door may not match the size it is sold as.

Is a custom sliding screen door worth it over a store-bought one?

A store-bought door only fits well if your opening happens to match one of its sizes. If it does not, the door rubs, gaps or comes off the track. A custom door is built to your opening, so it fits from the start. The quote is free, so you can compare before you decide.

How much does a sliding screen door replacement cost?

It depends on the size of the opening and the mesh you choose, so we quote every door on its own. Send a photo with your quote request and the quote is free, with no obligation.
